pfl : playoffs : Glove shuffle

Overview: GHM&D was approached again, by the lovely guys at the PFL. This time with a new challenge, ‘in-stadium’ entertainment. We were presented with an example of a Baseball Glove Shuffle, hiding the ball under one of the gloves, followed by a shuffle animation and then a brief pause to allow the crowd to guess which glove the ball was under.

We wanted to apply the same to the PFL, and so we started pulling assets together. Fortunately we already had the decagon from earlier projects, and with the purchase of some MMA Gloves and a little Photoshop to brand them with the PFL logo, we were good to get underway.

The process was split into several stages. The opener - in which the ‘Crown’ was slid under one of the Gloves. This animation stayed the same throughout. The next stage was to animate a series of twists and turns to ensure the crown & glove ended up in the desired end position, of which we did one for each of the three gloves. We finished off with a final animation for the glove reveal and adding some fireworks etc in After Effects.

Once we had one animation set, it was a matter of duplicating the animation and reverse animating for each of the final reveals. Changing a few of the twists and turns but essentially this gave a bit of variety but streamlined the whole process.
